About this event

Do you have the will and the vision to open doors that are closed to students? Participants will delve into practices that unintentionally marginalize communities of students, staff and families to engagement strategies that open doors for each and every one. Participants will use the Tools of Cultural Proficiency as a guide for addressing classroom, school and district-based equity practices through an “inside-out” model. Join the journey of a two-tiered examination – the organization and ourselves as educators who have the responsibility and the privilege to escort students and their communities through open doors.

During this virtual session, participants will:

  • Develope a greater understading of how to apply an equity lens in your daily policies, procedures and practices within the school or district to dismantle disparities and reduce barriers.
  • Identify the relationship of values and actions within an equitable environment.
  • Engage in opportunities to utilize the four tools of Cultural Proficiency as framework when addressing classroom, school, or district decisions.

The virtual workshop will be led by Dr. Trudy Arriaga, a lifelong educator who has been everything from a papaeducator to the first female superintendent in Ventura, California. She has assisted educactors, schools and districts throughout the United States to align the actions of the organization with their stated values and principles in their effort to build a culturally proficient and inclusive organization.
